Descrizione
Ladin is a neo-Latin or Romance language, which derives linguistic origin from the superimposition, in different eras, of vulgar Latin on the languages spoken by the local people. Over the centuries, after the annexation of the Alpine regions to the Roman Empire (15 BC), the Rhaetian population of the Dolomite regions adopted the Latin of the Roman soldiers and officials, without completely renouncing their own language, and gradually transforming it into the Ladin language.
In recent years, cultural and theatrical associations have been promoting and safeguarding the Ladin language through activities, publications, radio and television broadcasts, literary works, magazines and books, trying to awaken the ethical awareness of the Ladin people of the Dolomites.
The community of Cortina d’Ampezzo and its territory have been recognized as a linguistic minority belonging to the historical Ladin group of the Dolomites, considered as a homogeneous group of populations with Ladin historical and linguistic roots through the resolution of the City Council no. 72 of 18.12.2000, in implementation of the provisions of law n ° 482/99 “Rules for the protection of historical linguistic minorities”.
