Descrizione
As reported in the municipal statute, the town of Cortina is divided into 6 districts, the Sestieri d’Ampezzo, which also have the function of representing local communities. In particular, they are linked to the organization of folkloric events. The six districts are called: Alverà, Azon (Azón), Cadin (Ciadìn), Key (Ciàe), Cortina, Zuel (Śuèl).
In the summer, in the months of July and August, each Sestiere organizes "its" weekend of country festivities, during which you can dance, enjoy gastronomic specialties and have fun.
In addition, both in winter and in summer, the Sestieri organize many sports competitions that are still very much felt by the inhabitants of Cortina d'Ampezzo today.
Each Sestiere has its own church or more than one managed by the Confraternities headed by the Gastaldo / Gastalda and the Saint / patron saint / protector: Santa Giuliana in Alverà (Alverà), Sant'Andrea a Còl (Azon), Madonna della Salute in Cadin di Sotto (Cadin), St. Anthony of Padua in Key, Madonna of Lourdes in Verocai-Grava and SS. Trinità in Maion (Key), San Rocco in Zuel di Sopra, San Candido and San Giuseppe in Campo di Sopra and Santo Nome di Maria in Coiana, also called Causa Nostrae Letitiae (Zuel) which deserve to be visited. The main church of Cortina is the Minor Basilica of Santi Filippo and Giacomo Apostoli, the patrons of Cortina d’Ampezzo are celebrated on May 3. However, there is also a deep and ancient 610-year-old devotion to the Madonna della Difesa, venerated in the Sanctuary also located in the Cortina district next to the cemetery. In fact, the Patron Saint for schools and municipal and public offices occurs on January 19.
