Descrizione

For every event in life, from birth to marriage, from illness to death, from small to great vicissitudes, customs have been handed down such as the "sbarà fora", greeting the newlyweds on the eve of the wedding, "ra zarcogna", gift to the newborn , and "vijinanza", the assistance of neighbors to relatives on the occasion of the death of a relative.

Traditions are often linked to religiosity, for example each village has its own festival, with the moment of prayer and then the joy of "inze stua" in front of a plate of "carafoi" (fried dessert covered with icing sugar)

Important holidays such as Corpus Domini, Madonna del Rosario, First Communion, Confirmation, Weddings and Funerals see a more or less numerous presence of people with traditional clothes: the Ampezzo costume that was always worn until the last century.

The elegance of this is emphasized by the cut, the richness of colors, the silver filigree jewels that adorn the women's hair, gathered in the "ciou".

With pride the members of the Musical Corps of Cortina d'Ampezzo still wear the "vestì a r'anpezana" and on the last Sunday of August there is the "Ra festa de ra Bandes" in which costumes from the neighboring valleys can also be admired, as well as to listen to the music of musical groups.

One of the main and particularly magical events of the winter season is the arrival of San Nicolò and his angels who, on the night of December 5, arrive in the parish churchyard, bringing gifts for good children while in Piazza Angelo Dibona, in the center of Cortina d'Ampezzo, the "Krampus", frightening-looking devils that drag large chains banging noisily to frighten young and old, scare and admonish children who have been mischievous during the year.

On Carnival Sunday there are the folkloristic floats of the Sestieri d'Ampezzo, with farces and satires in Ampezzo Ladin and the award ceremony of the winter Palio, a relay race on cross-country skis between the six fierce teams of the same.

At Easter we play "peta voo", with colored hard-boiled eggs and on the first Sunday of July we experience "ra Sagra d'Anpezo", with games and challenges between the Sestieri and the Palio Estivo, a running race, through the streets of the Middle.
