Descrizione
The Museum of the First World War inaugurated on 27 September 2002, opens its doors to the public on 12 August 2003, following the restoration and renovation of the "Tre Sassi" or "Intrà i sasc" Fort, on the Valparola pass, built between 1897 and 1901 to bar the Italian army from probable access to Val Badia.
The intent of the Museum is to tell the story by the soldiers and not by the generals or by politics, by the losers and not the winners.
The material on display, the result of 45 years of research, is for the most part owned by the Lancedelli family, which also manages its management.
The museum wants to bring attention to the value of soldiers, not as fighters of this or that army, but as men. Having to confront and adapt daily to the mountain, with its limits and natural discomforts, turned out to be one of the hardest and most exhausting fights. In these tragic situations, authentic human values emerged clearly opposed to the absurdity of war, passed off as a tool for solving political problems.
On all other days of the year for individuals and groups, especially for schools, it is possible to visit with a guide by booking via email info@cortinamuseoguerra.it
