Church of the Madonna della Salute in Cadin di Sotto (Madonna of the Health)

The dedication of the church to the Blessed Virgin of Health recalls a miracle that took place in this area: it is handed down that a child, born paralytic, was healed by the apparition of the Madonna, but in reality there are no documentary sources that attest to the fact in this village.

The works for the erection of the church took place at the end of the 1700s. Externally, above the entrance door, there is a valuable lunette frescoed by Giuseppe Ghedina (Cortina 1825-1896) in 1896, which depicts the Souls in Purgatory and the Madonna and Child. Entering the church we observe the two paintings placed on the counter-façade: on the left “S. Francis of Assisi "and on the right a devotional depiction of the Madonna of Trens accompanied by an invocation for prayer in German and from the date 1716." Maria zu Trens bit fr uns, 1716 "Proceeding in the nave we find the two bright frescoed lunette made in 1950 by Alvise Zorzi from Venice:"L’innocenza che si accosta alla Fede” (Innocence that approaches faith) and “Il miracolo della guarigione” (The miracle of healing) set in Cadin. In the presbytery there is the modern marble altar which houses the wooden sculptural group that Francesco Tavella (1844-1939) created at the end of the 19th century: the Madonna embracing the Child between Saints Joachim and Anna.
